Spanish Rural Holiday
Here at Cortijo Alto you are ideally situated to explore the Almeria province. At a little over 1000 m we are at the foot of the Sierra Maria, surrounded by wide open spaces where you can walk, cycle, go bird watching or whatever you choose.
Easily accessible by the A92N autovia, you can be in Granada in less than 2 hours, on the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada in 2½ hours or on the beach at Aguilas in an hour.
During the spring the area is ablaze with Almond blossom and Olive blossom. There are fiestas throughout the year, ranging from small little gatherings of a hundred or so in a tiny Pueblo to the spectacular Semana Santa parade in Lorca.
The local fiesta in Chirivel lasts for around a month in July/August and includes things like photography/painting courses and competitions for both adults and children. Music and dancing throughout the night ( if you have the stamina). Cultural shows from around the province. Wine tasting events and a host of other activities.
Spain would not be Spain without Bullfighting, both Velez Rubio and Chirivel set up Bullrings at least once a year. Whether you approve or disapprove there is no doubt these spectacles prove very popular with the local Spanish population.
